Fees and Paying for Care
AbbeyCare operates a trial visit policy to ensure a mutually, suitable placement is achieved. As a first stage to this residents are invited to spend a day with us, perhaps for lunch or tea to become familiar with their surroundings and ensure they are happy with the facilities and environment we provide. The next step is usually a trial stay of up to four weeks and a decision is usually taken by the end of that period whether the placement is suitable.
The fees are dependent upon the choice of room available and the individual's requirements and needs. These will be discussed and agreed prior to admission as will individual arrangements for payment of fees.
Paying for care can be complex at times. It is important to take advice to make sure you are making the right decision. The following services will all be able to guide you through the process.
- Your local Social Services
- The Benefits agency: 0800 88 2200
- Charities such as Age UK: 0800 169 6265
- Council and Care: 0845 300 7585
The Limits
The rules are different in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, but to summarise:
- If your capital is less than £13,500 in England than your local authority may pay for your care.
- You will have to pay for the full costs of your care if you have more than £22,250 in England.
- For every £250 you have over the lower limit, the authorities will pay £1 less.
- Your home would only be included in your assets if you live alone or both you and your partner were moving to a home. However, for the first 12 weeks after admission to a home on a permanent basis, the local authority will not take into account your house as part of your assets.
